February 2020 Self-Care Sunday Roundup

Each Sunday I write a tip inspired by some words of wisdom to encourage regular self-care and reflection.

One of my new year focuses is to listen to more music - reconnect with the songs I love, and seek out new music as well. So I've continued with lyric-based self-care Sundays for February - here's the roundup! :)

"It was a teenage wedding, and the old folks wished them well.

You could see that Pierre did truly love the mademoiselle.

And now the young monsieur and madame have rung the chapel bell,

"C'est la vie", say the old folks, it goes to show you never can tell."

- Chuck Berry, Never Can Tell

Sometimes a teenage wedding works out. Sometimes we take a leap of faith and the landing sticks. You never can tell. Risk is life and life is risky. But without venturing out onto those unknown horizons, we don't get those hi-fi phonos and a cherry red '53.

"Cus lovin is easy as takin a breath,

I'll do it all day til the day of my death.

I don't wanna own you, you don't have to stay,

just as long as I've known you I've wanted to say,

I'm in love with you."

- Carsie Blanton, Lovin is Easy

Feeling love is easy.

As taking a breath.

As a simple smile.

Sharing the love can be the hard part. Letting others know what we feel, how we feel it, and when we feel it. Telling them we love them. Telling them we care. Making sure they know we appreciate them. Being vulnerable enough to just share. Without regard of how the love is received or returned. Not wanting to own or force. To just let it known, as easily as it is felt. - - - "I don't know where I'm going next,

I don't know who I'm gonna be."

- Jefferson Airplane, Other Side of This Life

We make plans, make the best choices given the information we've got. Choose paths that feels the most right. Appreciate the simple moments and each new day. But change happens and no one knows for sure what tomorrow will bring - where were' goin next, who we're gonna be.

Inevitable change can sound unnerving, but it's also the ultimate gift of life. Wherever you find yourself, lies within the ability and capacity for change.

"Don't you wonder sometimes, bout sound and vision?"

- David Bowie, Sound and Vision

What a utterly amazing thing: sound and vision.

They inform us. Transport us. Shape us.

Move us. Age us. Change us.

Don't you wonder sometimes, about them. How it all works. The astounding nature of our senses we so easily take for granted.
